Impact assessments

Ex ante impact assessment – or Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) in the OECD jargon – provides a structured framework for evaluating the potential consequences of proposed regulations or policy actions before they are enacted. Impact assessments offer a valuable approach to ensure that regulations are targeted, cost-effective, enforceable, and responsive to societal needs.

At Syntesia – Policy and Economics, we specialize in providing comprehensive services that not only gauge the potential impacts of proposed regulations but also ensure they align with broader policy objectives, paving the way for effective, efficient and sustainable regulations. We follow international guidelines and best practices in the field and provide documents which clearly present the findings, methodologies and limitations. We develop methodologies tailored to specific policy areas or institutions.

Our approach to impact assessments is meticulous and tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. We begin with a comprehensive problem definition, followed by the identification and comparison of regulatory options. Through rigorous cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness or multi-criteria analyses, we ensure that all potential impacts are thoroughly examined and addressed. This is supported by the stakeholder consultation process, covering all relevant categories (including public authorities and private entities) and relying on tailored strategies and questionnaires.
